日記（にっき）とは、日々の出来事を、ある程度連続的に紙などに記録したものである。単なる記録として扱われるものから、文学として扱われるものまで、その内容は様々である。ある人物の生涯にわたって記されるような長期にわたるものから、ある旅、ある職務、ある事件などの間だけ記された短期のものまで、期間・分量も様々であり、西洋・東洋を問わず、世界的に存在する。

アーカイブ（archive）とは、重要記録を保存・活用し、未来に伝達することをいう。日本では一般的に書庫や保存記録と訳されることが多いが、元来は公記録保管所、または公文書の保存所、履歴などを意味し、記録を保存しておく場所である（公文書館も参照のこと）。 国立国語研究所による「外来語」言い換え提案では、「アーカイブ」の言い換え語として「保存記録」や「記録保存館」とされている。
A user profile is a visual display of personal data associated with a specific user, or a customized desktop environment. A profile refers therefore to the explicit digital representation of a person's identity. A user profile can also be considered as the computer representation of a user model. A profile can be used to store the description of the characteristics of person. This information can be exploited by systems taking into account the persons' characteristics and preferences. Profiling is the process that refers to construction of a profile via the extraction from a set of data. User profiles can be found on operating systems, computer programs, recommender systems, or dynamic websites (such as online social networking sites or bulletin boards).
